Amazon.com Product Description
Do away with bulky day packs without sacrificing storage capacity with the Mountainsmith Day lumbar pack. Ideal for short hikes, urban touring, or school use, the 854-cubic-inch pack offers such generous features as a zippered main compartment that holds picnic lunches or valuables, an interior zippered hanging pocket for keys and the like, and a zippered front panel pocket for items that demand quick access, such as a flashlight or Leatherman. Hikers, meanwhile, will appreciate the pair of water bottle pockets, each of which accommodates a 32-ounce water bottle, while frequent travelers will dig the back-panel airline ticket pocket.

The Day pack is no slouch from a comfort perspective, either, with a removable shoulder strap with a sliding pad (great for airports), an air mesh foam back panel, and a tuck-away waist belt. And should you need to compress the contents when fitting the pack into a cramped overhead compartment or a tight school locker, simply cinch up the two compression straps and you're set. Other features include a bright yellow lining that promotes visibility, reflective highlights, and elastic rigging.

The pack--which is made of durable 420d Velocity nylon body fabric, high-density Oxford nylon reinforcements, and 210d mini ripstop nylon lining--measures 13 by 15 by 10 inches (W x H x D) and is backed by a lifetime warranty.

5 out of 5 stars Great little pack for the price!   September 5, 2008

This was on special in the red, which was the color I would have chosen anyway. (Under $30) I like the size; the ability for the cinch straps to vary the size. I can't verify the waterproofness, yet. But I will echo the reviews -- great little pack!

5 out of 5 stars Mountainsmith Day   August 23, 2008

This is an excellent product. The zippers are high quality, the pack sits low on the back allowing free air flow to keep you cool while you are hiking. There is enough room to expand if you need to carry a lot, while for normal day hikes, there is just the right amount of space to carry rain gear, extra socks, blister first aid kit, water & snacks to handle a 12 to 15 mile hike.

5 out of 5 stars had this bag for 4 years!   August 19, 2008

I have used this bag almost daily for 4 years.

I used it in costa rica for 1 month, used it in Burma for 1 month, and Mexico for 2 weeks.

I am a photographer and it was / is great. Definitely buy the strapettes to keep the weight off your hips. I was able to put a tripod on the bottom and carry 20 lbs of camera gear on it. I put a pad on the bottom of the main pocket to cushion my dslr, and used the smaller pocket for first aid kit/etc small stuff.

I still use it today and carry all my day-to day gear in it. love it. Never used the hip straps-just tucked them into the back pad and forgot abut them. There is a "secret" top pocket where the back pad is at the top.

this bag hasn't unraveled one bit, like the day i bought it but faded now :) I only wish it was truly waterproof the it would be perfect.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome little bag!   July 30, 2008

Perfect for a day at the park or hiking. I also use it just walking around downtown shopping, it takes the place of my purse and my husband can carry it without feeling like he's holding a purse. I plan on buying another one in a different color.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome bag   July 12, 2008
Justin Ratcliff (S.Pasadena, Ca.)
The everything bag. Initially I bought this for school, but in the 4 years since I've taken it everywhere. As another reviewer has pointed out it's a great camera bag, those big bottle holders also hold lenses, flashes, remotes, and anything else you need while out shooting. It's also great on a bike, and on the trail, and because it rides so low, it's a lot easier to get into when you doing activities like snowshoeing that make gear access tricky. I highly recommend you spend a little more and get the shoulder straps that convert this bag into a backpack/hip-pack to get the most out of it. My only regret is that I couldn't find an all black bag as the red is a little bit more conspicuous than I like. Oh well, it's a awesome bag.
